Featured Bookstore of the Month:
Farley’s Bookshop in New Hope, Pennsylvania
Farley’s is an independent bookstore based halfway between Philly and NYC. They’ve been family owned and operated for 51 years.
The store was purchased in 1967 by Jim Farley, with some help from his friends — novelist James Michener and Fred Rogers (yes, THAT Mr. Rogers). His wife Nancy established a kids section that people are still raving about, fifty years on.
Jennifer and Rebekah, the current owners, are the daughters of Jim and Nancy.
They have a large stock with eclectic finds, all placed in a “nooks and crannies” space by the Delaware River. Their staff prides itself on being fiercely well-read and always ready with a recommendation. They love supporting small presses and have given small presses a priority space at the front of the store. They also have a resident 17 year old cat named Butter, who is himself quite the celebrity.
Their shop is like something out the past: the smell of books, killer finds on long-forgotten bottom shelves, friendly booksellers, and tons of little pieces of art on the wall to catch your eye.
